Welcome to Pain and Spine Clinics

Neck pain affects many people and makes their life more difficult. But to get rid of the neck pain, you need to know why you have it.

Here is the list of 10 of the most common causes of neck pain.

Poor Posture

How we stand, sit, and sleep can be related to the neck pain. When you crane your neck forward while texting, surfing the internet or even reading a book, it can cause neck pain.

Carrying too much weight

Carrying too much weight, especially when it is unevenly balanced, can strain the spine, causing injury and discomfort.

Brachial Plexus Injury

The brachial plexus is the group of nerves that start in the neck and go down into the arms and hands. An auto accident or a sports injury can cause a brachial plexus injury. As a result, your neck may hurt or feel numb, and you may not be able to move it.

Whiplash

Whiplash is the commonest auto accident injury. The sudden jerk your spine experiences when the vehicle comes to an abrupt halt causes whiplash. Whiplash can cause headaches, pain in the lower back, dizziness, tinnitus, and other symptoms.

Pinched Nerve

A pinched nerve feels like a brachial plexus injury and can be caused by an injury. A pinched nerve will cause pain, tingling, numbness and discomfort. Pain may radiate to the shoulders and arms.

Slipped Disc

This is caused due to age related wear and tear. The condition occurs when one of the spinal discs that act as shock absorbers between vertebrae becomes prolapsed. This would cause pain during daily activities, often on one side of the body.

The best advice we can give is to try to stay healthy and active, and to see a doctor if something feels wrong.

If your neck pain doesn’t disappear with rest, ice and over the counter painkillers, see a pain doctor immediately. A pain specialist can diagnose and treat your neck pain before it worsens.
